I’m using X61T’s these days instead of X60T’s, and there may be slight differences in hardware. Simply plug in some headphones to your Thinkpad and see if you get sound that way.

thinkpas Obviously software can access file but somehow it’s not capable of playing it’s sound. If I go to control panel Sound section and try to test speakers I get propmp “Filed lenovo thinkpad x60s audio play test tone” with no further explination.
